Star Wars, Skellig islands and pilgrimage

Skellig islands.
Watching a Behind-the-scenes film about "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" this morning, the impressive islands outside Ireland, Skellig Islands, caught my attention. The nartrator explained that Skellig Island emerged as a Christian retreat from the world in 600 AD, and is the ancient site of a monastery. The largest of the Skellig islands is Skellig Michael (Sceilg Mhichil) and was home to one of the earliest monastic settlements in Ireland. The smallest island, Little Skellig, is closed to the public. So breathtakingly beautiful! The smallest one in a bird sanctuary, too.

Star Wars travels
Care to think why I write about Star Wars in a travel blog? I wanna go there, of course! While watching the movie, I said to myself: "Wow - I wanna go there!", much like felt watching all the LOTR-movies. But Skellig seemed so off the beaten path, so fresh, crisp and almost impossible to reach. But maybe, some day, "in this galaxy, not too far away", there might be a chance for me to reach it? I will surely give it a try. And be able to say "Chewie, we're home!".... Oh, no, that was lame. Bare with me...

Movie trips

This summer, I will be visiting a place mentioned in a movie. The Casoni de Monte-Carlo was used by Ian Fleming to describe a casino in "Royale-les-eaux", a fictional resort featured in Caino Royale (1953). During my stay in Monaco, I shall surely take a photo of the place. Monaco an its casinos were also locations in "Never say never again" and "Goldeneye". So there is still time to catch up and find the locations on a map before actually going there.
The Skellig Islands. Magnificent!
I will also visit Rome and The Vatican this summer, so I think my iPhone will overload on movie pictures by the time I come back.

What movie places have you visited?
